Smith Rocks

On Canadian Thanksgiving of 2018 my family was doing something quite different than most. On the Thursday night before the weekend we drive across the US border in our truck and camper. The first day we didn’t drive very far and stayed at a truck stop overnight. Waking up to rain, we were hoping it would clear up as soon as we reached our destination for that day, Frenchman Coulee in Washington. The rain didn’t clear and we took our time driving down the state arriving to the amazing looking canyon. Making dinner we were all looking forward to a Read more

Clothing Presentation at MEC

On Thursday October 4th 2018 I had been invited to do a presentation at MEC North Vancouver. It would be about clothing, specifically while trekking to Everest Base Camp. Though I have never been to Everest Base Camp, or even Asia at all, I do know a thing or two about how to dress on an expedition. The presentation was for Chasing Sunrise and their members who would be going to Everest Base Camp in late October of 2018. I was super excited and honoured to have been asked to do this. Spearhead Traverse Summer 2018

On August 30 my family left our house at noon to go on our second annual Spearhead Traverse on Labour Day Weekend. We were all excited because we hadn’t spent much time hiking in the summer. MEC Outdoor Nation Summit

On the weekend of August 10th-12th 2018 I had some of the most inspiring days of my life. In the beginning of the summer I had been invited to be a diversity panellist at a MEC Outdoor Nation Summit. MEC Outdoor Nation describe themselves as “about making young Canadians feel welcome outside.” The summit was about helping young Canadians inspire others and build ideas they may have that help get young Canadians outside. The Vancouver Summit had 70 participants. I wasn’t sure what I would be doing, but I knew it would be a great opportunity and I was excited … Read more

Owl to Tenquille Hiking Traverse

This past year I have not been on many trips in the mountains. So this Spring when I heard about a teen hiking trip in the summer I was excited, I haven’t been on many trips with teenagers. The hiking trip would be led by a local hiking and ski guide who grew up in Pemberton, Sam McKoy. It would take place from July 16 to 22 and we would be doing the Owl to Tenquille Traverse. I was super happy about where we would be going. We would be hiking through mountains I could see from my house and … Read more
